Literature and language are central to the Slovene cultural ethos.
In 2004 Orient express published "Unlocking the Aquarium", an
anthology of contemporary writing from Slovenia edited by Fiona
Sampson, Iztok Osojnik and Ana Jelnikar. The anthology features
writings by seventeen authors, ranging from acclaimed, award-winning
names - such as poet Tomaž Šalamun, novelist and essayist Drago
Jančar, theatre director Dušan Jovanović, poet, essayist and
translator Iztok Osojnik to fresh ones exploring new forms and ideas,
like Gregor Podlogar and Peter Semolič.
During November a series of readings will explore the anthology and
writing today in Slovenia.
Two poems by Tomaž Šalamun, world renowned poet, are included in
the new edition of Poetry Review edited by Fiona Sampson which will be
launched on 21 July by Poetry Society.
