Presentation of Slovenian Culture in the United Kingdom
In 2004 the Ministry of
Culture, the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs and the Government Public Relations and Media
Office began an initiative for the presentation of contemporary
Slovenian culture in the United Kingdom during the latter's presidency
of the European Union in 2005, in collaboration with cultural
institutions in the United Kingdom. A number of other ministries and
institutions are also involved in the initiative and sponsors have
been found for some of the projects.
On the basis of the selection made by our British partners in accordance with the
British concept of this type of presentation of a foreign culture, the
programme consists of the latest projects by Slovenian artists in
various fields and is designed to offer a cross section of the most
recent cultural creativity in Slovenia.
The series of presentations of visual art from Slovenia began at
the end of June with two events forming part of a presentation of new
EU members entitled "Arrivals>Slovenia".
From 6 September onwards the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA)
in London is hosting a "Slovenian Season" which will include
presentations of works from the fields of multimedia art, theatre,
film, electronic music and design.
Additionally, September, October and November will see various
presentations - in London, Edinburgh and Shrewsbury - of Slovenian
visual art and design, Slovenian drama, Slovenian literature and
Slovenian philosophy.
